Male
Sterility and Azospermia
Microsurgical
Operation To Restore Fertility
When
males are not ejaculating sperms it could be either the system is
there but blocked internally, or due to a lack of production, which
is unusual. A mechanical block between the factory (testicle) with
its associated maturation coil (epididymis) and the distribution
tube (the vas deferens) is now able to be by-passed and the tiny
tubes involved joined together by microsurgery. The condition, due
to either a developmental abnormality or an infection in the scrotum,
does not stop sperm production but blocks it and can be diagnosed
by delicate examination , ultrasound and blood tests showing near
normal serum F.S.H. and L.H.
The
operation is not painful when you awaken from a light general anaesthetic.
A short usually pain free stay in hospital and afterwards a scrotal
support for the post op period will allow walking and normal non-strenuous
activities such as most work situations. The operation is an extremely
delicate microsurgical one done by the finest Owen technique with
special equipment for the tiny structures.
Our
operation is only once and you could then obtain a pregnancy from
normal intercourse without any drugs or hormones. Our results are
the best obtainable anywhere in the world. Results since we had
the first success in 1975 show a better than 60% appearance of sperms
in the ejaculate but only a half of our patients achieve a pregnancy.
We will at your request store the sperms we harvest at the operation
in a Sperm Bank as a strategic reserve in case not enough are produced
after our operation, and they can be used at any time thereafter
in an I.V.F. (test tube) baby programme.
